About Us

The South West Hygienists' and Therapists' Society (SWHATS) is a non-profit making society aiming to provide education and a discussion forum to meet the real needs of hygienists and therapists. Meetings are held every other month, and include a light supper and drinks. Lectures and talks on pertinent issues are given by eminent speakers, and each evening is represented by a manufacturer to allow you to find out about new dental products.

We also have an Online Forum for hygienists and therapists to discuss issues relating to their work, comment on past lectures, and recommend future topics and speakers.

How a Periodontal Practice Runs in Canada

7pm, Monday 10th October 2011
Presented by Dr. Peter C. Fritz
Location: The Dental Implant Clinic, CPD: 2 hours

Peter Dr Peter Fritz is a specialist periodontist in Canada. He runs a busy referral periodontal practice Fonthill, Ontario. In Canada there are some differences in the roles that hygienists can perform. One difference is that in Ontario hygienists are not allowed to administer local anaesthetic! Peter Fritz will explain how he works with his hygienists and his referrersʼ hygienists to ensure that patients get the best possible care and continuing support therapy.

Next year we will have phantom head facilities so we can have more practical courses. The programme will be announced shortly.
